Good Water Project

In a remote community in Urrene, Mozambique, school students have to walk long distances to fetch water from unprotected wells, putting themselves at risk of waterborne diseases. In collaboration with our Good Neighbours office in Mozambique, Good Neighbours Australia is aiming to complete a number of life-sustaining water projects.

Thanks to our donors and partners in Australia, we were able to fund the development of three boreholes with hand pumps to support around 1,425 children and their families in the local community in 2021 and 2022. Now with the availability of water, the latest project also inspired the school principal to establish a garden project, grow nutritious food and provide ongoing learning opportunities for the students. Moreover,  a WASH Committee consisting of five community members was also established, training them in routine maintenance and ongoing management of the bore sites and pumps. Through these projects, the whole community has become aware of managing their water resources, even more important as they face the increasing impacts of climate change.

Help us continue transforming lives with water by supporting future projects. After all, that’s what good neighbours are for.

How to Give

Good Neighbours Australia supports community development initiatives locally and internationally. When you give a recurring donation to support community projects, your contribution will be allocated to a range of ongoing initiatives.

Your support will be directed to various infrastructure projects, dedicated training programs and provision of resources, all with the view to making communities more self reliant, resilient and sustainable for the long-term.

A group of school children in uniform gather around a water pump, filling a white bucket, while two adults supervise. The scene highlights water equality in an outdoor, rural area with trees and a clear sky—perfect for World Water Day.

"This borehole proves to be of great importance to our school and the community of people who lives nearby, as water is precious, essential for the life of all living beings. No water means no life."

Good Neighbours Australia adheres to the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) Code of Conduct, which is recognised as good practice in NGO management. All donations $2 and over are tax deductible.
