In the rural regions of Vietnam, where Good Neighbours Australia implements its child sponsorship program, we recognise the importance of providing regular health checks and nutritional support, so children can make the most of their early education.
By implementing ongoing health and nutrition checks as part of the child sponsorship program, enrolled children attend school more consistently and engage more fully with their education, especially when health facilities are far away or have limited access. Left untreated, diseases and malnutrition undermine their ability to learn.
Good Neighbours Australia also works with its implementing partners to equip adolescent girls and young women with the knowledge and practical support they need, to help manage their periods at school. By providing menstrual health management education, sustainable products and WASH facilities at schools, girls can participate more fully and confidently in their education.
The Better Life for Girls program helps reduce stigma, prevents hygiene and health issues and ensures girls don’t miss out on school each month as they manage their periods with the appropriate resources in place.
