Education is a powerful tool that children can use to help change the world. But, in developing countries like the Philippines, access to quality education is only a distant dream for millions of Filipinos trapped in a cycle of poverty.
Through the Better Life for Girls – Scholarship program, you can help realise the dreams of aspiring young female scholars, keen to pursue higher education opportunities in 2026, and beyond.
Targeting academically gifted, yet financially challenged students from remote and regional parts of the Philippines and/or highly disadvantaged urban communities, the program paves the way for talented students to pursue their studies and ultimately realise their career dreams.

What are the key selection criteria for scholars?
Applicants must be Filipino young women from a family facing economic hardship; enrolled in an accredited College or University; able to maintain a general weighted average of at least 85% in their studies; and must be an outstanding academic performer, of exemplary character, and commendable behaviour, as attested to by their secondary school head.
Who undertakes the selection process?
The selection process is undertaken by Good Neighbours through a screening process at the local Community Development Program level, followed by an application process and interviews undertaken by Good Neighbours head office in the Philippines.
What does the annual scholarship cover?
School-related expenses, including tuition fees, supplies, uniform, transportation, internet/mobile fees and food and meals.
What do donors receive?
Australian scholarship supporters receive: details about their scholarship recipient; an Annual Progress Report, highlighting scholar individual and program outcomes; major donors may be recognised in GNAU’s Annual Report; tax receipt associated with project and scholarship funding contributions; if a major donor/trust is interested in advancing women‘s empowerment in the Philippines through this educational scholarship program, GNAU can arrange field visits to meet program organisers and participants (please note, this would be at their own cost).
