Period poverty is a global issue affecting millions of women and girls around the globe. But it’s more than just a serious health issue. It’s also a human rights and gender equality issue, affecting those in marginalised communities the most. At Good Neighbours we recognise that the lack of accessible and accurate information on menstrual health management (MHM) is a core aspect of period poverty, along with the limited access to affordable menstrual hygiene products, safe and private sanitation facilities, clean water, and waste disposal bins.
With our Period Poverty Workshops, we aim to open up the conversation, empowering people to advocate for period poverty awareness in Australia and our partner countries.
Workshop 1: Period Poverty Bracelet
At this workshop learn about the life-changing work of Good Neighbours Australia as they seek to keep girls at school, who otherwise might leave because of ‘period poverty’. Then, get hands-on making a beautiful and practical period tracker bracelet which will be sent with a personalised message of hope and other resources, to a young girl in Laos, Vietnam, the Philippines or Bangladesh.
Group size: Up to 50 people

Workshop 2: Period Poverty Kits
Collaborating with Days for Girls Australia (DfGA), who muster teams of volunteers to construct 45,000-plus environmentally friendly washable menstrual kits (DfG Kits) across Australia each year, the Period Poverty Kit Workshop delivers a powerful education program, engaging participants as they get hands-on constructing environmentally-friendly washable menstrual kits to send overseas.
Group size: Up to 120 people
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
