Season’s Greetings to All Our Good Neighbours
As 2024 comes to a close, we want to thank you for supporting Good Neighbours Australia as we seek to ‘empower people and transform communities’ all around the world. Let’s take a moment to share a few highlights from the year.
Sharing Warmth Worldwide
Thousands of warm blankets and hand-knitted garments and toys, generously hand-crafted by hundreds of Australian volunteers, were shipped to Ukraine, Romania, Vietnam and Bangladesh this year.
Providing warmth and solace to displaced Ukrainians, supporting adolescent girls through school-based health programs in Bangladesh and comforting pre-school children in Vietnam, impacted by the devastation of Typhoon Yagi, these gifts were gratefully received around the world.
Our school was left in ruins after Typhoon Yagi, with the children's bedding being among the most affected items. We’re incredibly grateful to Good Neighbours and their partners for their swift and generous response. The new blankets they provided are not only beautiful but have also improved the quality of sleep for our young students. Your donation is a testament to the power of kindness.
Making a Better Life for Girls
Collaborating with our partner, Days for Girls Australia (DfGAL), some 5,000 washable menstrual health kits (DfG Kits) were constructed and donated by volunteers to support adolescent girls through our programs in regional and remote parts of Vietnam and Bangladesh.
By providing menstrual health education, access to clean water and appropriate restroom facilities, the construction of which were supported by a generous donation from the Quinn Femelle Private Ancillary Fund, the ‘Better Life for Girls’ program aims to help girls manage their periods, rather than skipping school for up to 40 days each year.
I am very grateful to the sponsor for giving me this kit. This product is very useful because my family lives in the mountains, and it is often very difficult to buy sanitary pads. Thanks to this kit and the accompanying products, I can take better care of myself during my period
Scholarships for Girls
Targeting academically gifted, yet financially challenged students from remote and regional parts of the Philippines, our new scholarship program paves the way for talented students to pursue higher education and chase their career dreams.
Ten scholars, who’ve already been funded by Australian donors, will commence their new courses in early 2025. It’s not too late to support a scholar, or two, in the New Year!
My dream is to become a nurse. I hope I will be able to serve my community with care and compassion one day.
