Access to clean, safe drinking water is the foundation for health, dignity and opportunity. After years of committed partnership with local leaders, we’re proud to celebrate the successful completion of our WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) project in Mozambique—delivering lasting change for children, schools and families in the Chitsotso community of Inhambane Province.

A Shared Mission: Safe Water for Every Child
From 2021 to 2025, our WASH initiative set out to transform daily life by ensuring reliable access to safe drinking water. Working hand‑in‑hand with community leaders and WASH Committees, the project tackled urgent water challenges affecting rural schools and households.
- 2021: Laying the Groundwork – The project began with the construction of the first borehole and hand pump, giving the Chitsotso community a dependable source of clean water. Local WASH Committee members received technical training and essential maintenance tools.
422 people benefited, including 309 students and 113 community members. - 2022–2023: Expanding Water Access in Schools – To strengthen children’s health and learning environments, new water facilities were built in two schools. WASH Committees received further training in water source management, reinforcing community ownership and long‑term sustainability.
1,003 individuals gained improved access to clean water. - 2024–2025: Securing Long‑Term Sustainability – The final phase focused on expanding safe water access and sanitation through an additional borehole and renewed mobilisation of the WASH Committee.
674 more people now have reliable access to safe drinking water.
A Legacy That Lives On
Although the project has formally concluded, its impact continues to grow. With functioning water systems and trained local committees, the community is equipped to maintain its water sources and safeguard children’s health well into the future.
Local leader Teresa described the new water point as a turning point for Chitsotso. With clean water close to home, families no longer face long, exhausting and unsafe journeys each day. She shared that this achievement will protect children from preventable illness and strengthen the community for generations.
