Decorating Santa Sacks for a Cause at Christmas Crafternoon
Just like any child, Vang Nguyet Nga, 7 years old, dreamt of receiving a gift on Christmas. She believes that Christmas is the day Santa gives presents to children, but up to this day, she hasn’t received any gift yet.
Earlier in September, Nga’s family was one of those affected by the extreme flooding and landslides in Quang Binh, a rural district of Ha Giang Province in the northeast of Vietnam. The flood injured several individuals, damaged 155 houses, and lost more than 1,000 hectares of agricultural land, wiping out the source of local food and incomes.
Until today, there is an ongoing need for reconstruction of collapsed houses, food, medicines and other necessary items, and financial support to help locals buy new crop seeds and domestic animals to restart their agricultural businesses.
Many children in Quang Binh, including Nga, need a glimpse of hope, even through a simple Christmas present, now more than ever.
Since 2020, we at Good Neighbours Australia have been appealing for Christmas gifts for children in difficult circumstances. Last year, we provided bicycles for the kids who were selected by our Good Neighbors Vietnam team to make a joyful Christmas for them to transport and something to play with.
This year, for a donation of only AU$40, you can send a Santa Sack and personalised messages to kids affected by the flood. We will fill the Santa sacks with Warm clothes, Rice and School materials for children like Nga this Christmas. We are appealing to your good hearts to support our cause and bring happiness to kids who need it the most.
